Neuropsychological Assessment

Detailed assessment of cognitive functioning, brain-behavior relationships, and neurological concerns.

Neuropsychological assessment provides an in-depth evaluation of cognitive functioning, including attention, memory, executive functioning, language, and processing speed. These evaluations are often used when there are concerns about how the brain is functioning due to injury, illness, or developmental differences.

What this evaluation may assess

  • Attention and concentration
  • Memory (short-term and long-term)
  • Executive functioning (planning, organization, problem-solving)
  • Language and communication abilities
  • Processing speed
  • Visual-spatial skills

Results are interpreted within the broader clinical context, including medical history, psychological functioning, and real-world concerns.

When neuropsychological testing may be helpful

  • Concerns about memory or cognitive decline
  • History of brain injury or concussion
  • Neurological or medical conditions affecting cognition
  • Diagnostic clarification (e.g., ADHD vs. cognitive impairment)
  • Academic or occupational difficulties related to cognitive functioning

A comprehensive and integrative approach

Neuropsychological assessment is typically more in-depth than other forms of testing and may involve several hours of evaluation. The goal is not only to identify strengths and weaknesses, but to understand how cognitive functioning impacts daily life.

Findings are translated into practical recommendations that can guide treatment, accommodations, or further medical evaluation.
